After Don and Joan got married they were blessed with a son in June 1946, Barry John, who sadly only survived for three days. Dad was offered the chance to stay in the RAF in Palestine, with the prospect of an immediate Commission and the job of CO's pilot. After everything that had happened he wanted to get back to Joan, and so went back to Kettering to his old job at the Post Office. He later transferred to the Inland Revenue where he worked until he retired. In 1963 he was promoted and transferred to the Bury St. Edmunds Office. In the later years he went onto part time until eventually retiring in 1985.
